Default Segregation now

I have been playing the game and following it for just about as long as it has been possible. I come from good ole Diablo, which i played from expansion day one and all the way through to now. Guildwars has been for me a 10 out of 10 game, but i havent been able to cheer at the changes implemented by the developers. I love Farming, I love PvP, and i love being in a good team on a coop.

Now they removed the farming. In my country we have a saying that its possible to be victoriuos all the way to hell. I think thats what arenanet is risking here. Many of their customers love the farming aspect, so why remove it? If they had a little common sense (Asking themselves; what do our customers want?), they would be CREATING farming spots in difficult areas of the game.

To me the riverside mision is such a good example of this that I had a hard time understanding the reasoning of the devs, when they nerfed it. The giants were hard to reach, i did it maybe 2 times out of 10, soloing. I could get small farming pickups of 2 or 3 players, we would do better, we would be challenged and we would cheer at each others good drops if we made it to the farming spot. So create more farming spots, f.example, a horde of summits passing in the Yaks bend mission. sneakily bypassed by coop teams, but also an implemented farming place for lets say steel. And the Ettins, make em drop purples but seldom gold, making it a good source of major runes for those in the LA area. And so on.

Following the train of thought, as a PvE player, the rune situation right now is ruining the fun of finding any gold armors out there, you have to make some sort of minimum sell price of each rune type. Getting a sup rune and knowing its not worth the parchment its scribed upon is a very big let down.

My Last suggestion springs naturally from my Diablo days. I saw a post, where it was proposed that real roleplayers get their own servers. I suggest, if you were to implement this, that you make it servers free of PvP players too. You would get what resembles the ladder of Diablo 2. Some dis on this server could then be Rp districts, other for players who wants the challenge of having no PvP-chars in the arenas. I would prefer such a setting, I would stretch as far as pretending to be roleplaying, just to get the game i would like. It is my belief that such a segregation of RP servers and PvP/PvE servers would benefit many a customer of yours. I would even stake the claim that pure RP servers without PvP chars, would be the favorite choice of many, maybe even outcompeting the servers you are running now.

So in conclusion Arenanet, dont react to the community as an over-hysterical mother would to her child, act as a business man who recognises a big market where there is one. Afterall, your implementations so far is pushing me away, and im a pretty loyal online gamer. You can "Win" over me, and my ways of playing, but i will be out there looking for a replacement game that is coming towards my needs, so you are gonna lose to your competitors. You are being victorious all the way to hell.

Good points.... but really segregating PvE and PvP players from each other seems a stupid idea.

I for one like PvE and PvP parts of the game, and I should have the right to do both of these things in game with my single character.

You see onto your other point about loving farming... I for one don't love farming, and I don't have the time to do it.

While I am annoyed that A.net has nerfed the yummy drops that some mobs like the drakes use to drop, I fail to see how anyone could enjoy killing wave ater wave of mobs, collecting items and repeating it constantly... it sounds dull and boring.

However they nerfed them since people were farming them none stop and then selling items for insane prices and causing the prices of all items to go up.

I blame the abusers for that happening.

PvP players are annoyed that they need to PvE to get things, and I agree they shouldn't have to do all that... hopefully A.net will sort something out for them.

Hm... This is right, but needs one minor change.

There we go.

Seperating PvE and PvP is not only pointless and stupid, but Anet will never do it. They'll alienate the middle-road people. The people who like both.

Let go of your old D2 ways and thought processes. Once you do you will feel better.

D2 was a great game indeed, but also poisoned many a mind into thinking that farming, formerly known as mfing, endlessly for nigh impossible to obtain items as fun.

Addictive, yes. Fun, no.

Well you are misunderstanding my point of segregation. I am proposing we keep the RP/PvP servers as is, just changing the name maybe from RP to PvE chars. Then make seperate servers for RP chars with all arenas and so on, securing a PvP environment free of premades.

I knew some people would flock to call me a whiner, I am tired of this and its one of the weighty reasons to make this proposal. The ones who wants the free PvP chars play on the existing server. Those of us who like to PvE to eventually build a char for the arenas, could do so without our suggestions constantly being tried ridiculed by people 15 years younger and with 15 years of less education.

Farming is exploiting an area for profit. They arn't punishing people who go out and kill monsters, only those that attack melee only enemies for easy gold.

I'm not sure what you're doing in Riverside but I can make it to the giants 10/10 times solo and I can stand and tank 6 of them at a time to death, if I happen to get 8 or 10 of them on me I have to retreat a moment after killing the first 2. The drops in most farming spots are still good enough that if you are solo you'll make it a worthwhile hour (at least most of the spots I go for runes now, I'm having a harder time for perfect purple/gold weapon drops).

I love the fact that GW is one giant server, none of this meeting up with a friend from another game someplace to find out, oh you would play together but he's on the B server and you're on the Q server. It also makes the ladder a true best of the best and not a best of the weakest server.

Well ok to reply to the above poster. I am smiting my way through riverside but usually get killed by 2 white mantle casters. I am not advocating for easy farming spots. Just like they did with the ettins, pack a larger diversity of monsters in the surroundings, making it harder for one specific build to get through, so few could. Others could go in small teams. But keep the drops there or balance them at least instead of ruining the fun. You most admit, both adding all kind of monster combinations to make the farmed area very hard, and then also removing any drops there have been, is not just saying a nono to farming, its slapping people in the face, who were doing nothing than enjoing the game.

On the prices, i have seen from Diablo that at any patch or ladder start, the price of valuables skyrocket, then slowly decline as market get saturated. The market gets reliable and predictable, with surprises as some items value can suddenly increase. Good Thing, this is enjoyable. Same with GW, the economics were not necessarily broken, they didnt get to settle. They maybe werent in needing of drastic gameplaying changes a la the runetrader. Who I would call the Ganker of hunting and collecting.

I think the Team at Arenanet have done a great job with this game. I also recognize the validity of their Advertising Claims, there are imcomplemented many innovative solutions to the game. But i do think the devs somehow have swalloved that whole advertising thing wholely. Its the 200 year anniversary for Hans Christian Anderson. And that makes me think of the Emperors New Clothes, with Arenanet in the Emperors role, I see a lot of fancy clothing on the Emepror, but other of the clothing parts sure are invisible to me.

This is not Diablo 2... they are simular only slightly, they are completely two different games. While your idea of items costing loads is fun, to most people, me included its damn annoying. Power Players were taking over the game, forcing people like me to farm day and night to afford a single rune or item.

Not only does this go against A.Nets prime idea of a game which is not ruled by "how long you play, but more what things you do, and skills you have".

But its unfair... adding the rune trader has stady out the prices of runes... which is a good thing. Till they make money sinks, traders will have to do.

and what's wrong with a company standing by its beliefs? If they were to change things now to more Diablo 2 style, I would quit... because to me Diablo 2 was great single player game, but mindless and annoying beyond that.

Again how anyone can enjoy mindless farming over and over again is beyond me.

Farming sometimes appeals to a mindset that would also enjoy gold prospecting during the Gold Rush. Even I enjoy the thrill of victory when you see that perfect item drop. However, some may just have too much free time to devote to trying to get that feeling. I know I don't have much...

While I would really enjoy having an RP-only district (I'm really missing the social interaction), I don't think that segregating areas is a great idea.

I should totally refuse to accept the word farming in this discussion. I might as well call it hunting and gathering, cause thats what i do. To myself i call that farming. But you can use the term farming and get away with painting a picture of me as an extreme minority, spending their life on wrecking a game for you. Im not, I play when i want and with same patience as everyone else. Arenanet encourages the community to give feedback to the game. And my suggestions are just as valid as any you might have.

I have never had to farm except for one time where I needed a quick 100 gold to buy a skill. I don't really see the need for farming. I know why people do it, they want gold, good items, and runes. But do you really NEED that stuff, or do you only think you need it. When it comes to PvP, is that +3 skill gonna make a huge difference? Will it be the deciding factor in the game? I don't think so.

Balrad, the whole game is a farming spot, especially near the end areas.

You must understand that myself and many others are ex-D2 players and are here for the very reason of B-net's idiocy.

Items were created that were nearly impossible to obtain. Remember that runeword that took a Ber and 2 Jahs to make? What was B-net saying to you by doing that?

This is a casual gamer game. They made farming unnecessary to avoid the bots and those that exploit the virtual economy. It sounds like you want A-net to set up a designated farming area for your new bot.

If you like to play, kill things and make money then do it, noone is stoping you.

This game is trying to eliminate the grinders and cheaters from exploiting the casual gamers.

Unlock all your skills and items and go PvP and be equal to your opponenet, with the exception of your respective skill. No more running around PvE areas exploiting the weak.

No more getting a leg up because you can afford to farm for 6 hours a day. Noone likes the idea of giving a fair fight, even when they know they are getting one because of what A-net is trying to do.

Diablo is so dead dude, let it rest in peace. There wasn't one good thing about D2 on B-net when I left, not a one. Even their character development, which was the cream of the game's crop is weaker than GW's.

No more cookie cutters. No more getting locked into one skill as opposed to an entire tree, which by the way you can change in this game.

Well ok, I hope the Arenanet have read my suggestions by now, i will not take this discusion further. I was aware I would be regarded by the people here as a game terrorist or some kind of mindless machine. I have in very direct words explained my gaming habits, and the reasons for my suggestions. And you accuse me of wanting to run a bot... And you take out your degrading cliche of me being a lifeless looser who for that reason has no say. You use this tactics on anybody who voices a sense of disappointment towards what they perceive as very bad gameplay ideas.

Well let me tell you this. This choir of highpitched voices, which in unison begins degrading perfectly valid points of view, have a refrain going called "you whiner". This song is a cry and a whine, many a decibel higher than the poor guy you are mocking as a whiner. I cannot fathom how you fail to see the endless crying and whining, that is the very essence of this bullying tactics, in your own flock. Hypocrites.

It's actually ridiculously easy to get to the Giants in Riverside. You can do it without fighting any mobs, if you want. I usually just fight 1 set, cuz it makes it a bit faster than trying to avoid them.

I wish they would make it a bit harder, and improve the drop rate and quality. It certainly seems like the drop rate has been reduced. And a few weeks ago, I don't remember them ever dropping blues. Now I'd say about 30-40% of the armors I get are blue.
